Behind-the-Scenes: How ideas come to life.

Each month, I kick off my creative process by selecting a theme and then heading to the fabric stores to find textiles, ribbons, and notions that align with it. This month’s theme is all about celebration, so I’ve been on the hunt for everything with those festive, party vibes.

My work space

I like to buy at least half a yard of each fabric, just in case I need more later. I’d rather have extra on hand than risk having to search for more—finding the same fabric twice is nearly impossible!

My idea “sketchbook”

As you can see from this spread, I’ve started by cutting several fabric swatches and layering them with ribbons, stickers, pom poms, and really anything else that catches my eye and sparks my creativity. It’s such a fun, free-flowing process where I get to experiment with color, texture, and pattern in a hands-on way. I love how these little details come together to bring a fresh, playful energy to the project—it’s all about letting inspiration lead the way.

The ideas come to life

I used many of the original combinations to craft individual designs, and for me, this is the most exciting part. The joy comes from not knowing exactly what will emerge and letting the flow of imagination and happy accidents guide the process. It's such a sweet spot to be in—where creativity unfolds unexpectedly and effortlessly.

Stevie-January Muse

Out of all the dolls I created, I’ve chosen Stevie to represent my January Collector’s Club doll for the 2nd anniversary! She’s all set to celebrate in a gold fabric jumper, white ankle socks, and black ballet slippers. I can just picture her as the guest of honor, handing out charming party favors with a smile.

Which one is your favorite?

xo,

Nikki
